Do I need actinics with a halide?

Date Published - 6th December 2011 - Published by - iQuatics Ltd

There are many factors which can help you decide but in general the lower kelvin halides (6500k, 10000k, 14000k) would look better with supplemented lighting running alongside. Using an actinic (on a marine tank) would help balance out the yellow hue given from the halides to give you more of a natural looking appearance across the tank. Other blue tubes can be used for doing the same job but the actinic will also bring out certain fluorescence in your corals.
