Triggerfish – Questions and Answers

Date Published - 24th August 2012 - Published by - iQuatics Ltd

Can triggerfish be recommended to newcomers?
Triggerfish are relatively easy to keep and will tolerate less than perfect water conditions. However, this comparative toughness is reflected in a temperament that varies from irritable to highly pugnacious, depending on the species.
Can I keep them with invertebrates?
No. Nothing is safe from their powerful jaws, a fish-only tank is essential.

Apart from being aggressive, do triggerfish have any other bad habits?
Some specimens move sand and gravel around the tank and may even bite through airlines or electrical cables. Watch new fish for unsocial or dangerous behaviour. Take care if feeding by hand as they can inflict a nasty bite.
